Showing Our PRIDE Thru CampBrain DEI Initiatives
Showing Our PRIDE Thru CampBrain DEI Initiatives Across the world, people recognize the month of June as a special time of year to focus on Pride. This month, the calendar is especially packed full of opportunities to learn, protest, volunteer, socialize, and celebrate. With its origins in protest, Pride offers us space to raise awareness of the oppression of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, and to celebrate and amplify voices from those communities, all towards a future where everyone has the safety and freedom to be themselves. For many kids, summer camp is the place where they first feel they can express themselves, [...]
Let’s Get More Kids To Camp!
Let's Get More Kids To Camp! There are a few highlights in the CampBrain calendar that are extra special to us – but none are quite like Canoe Heads For Kids, the annual fundraiser for Amici Children’s Camp Charity. As per the name, “Canoe Heads”, this event challenges participants to tackle a 7.5 km (4.6 m) portage across Toronto’s waterfront trail, and a 7.5 km paddle back along the shore of Lake Ontario! The result? The unique sight of portagers downtown! Why we support Amici Amici has been sending children (ages 7-17) from low-income households to overnight summer camps across [...]
Hybrid Life at CampBrain
Hybrid Life at CampBrain Over the past 2.5 years, CampBrain has transformed from the inside out. We were an almost fully in-person company where everyone came into the office. Our culture, traditions, and cadence all revolved around weekdays in the office together. We loved seeing each other, playing with the office dogs, sharing home-baked treats in the kitchen, and walking for coffee to our favourite local café: Black Canary. In March 2020, that changed abruptly as we spent the next year and a half working from home. When we re-opened the office in September 2022, we had some decisions to [...]
Welcome, New Brainers of 2022!
As we look back on the year, as you heard in Rob’s Year In Review post, one of the major highlights for us was welcoming eleven new Brainers to the team! Every new team member brings their unique experience and perspective to our work and culture. As they settle in, we learn more about what their contributions and legacy will look like here; what they will teach us & what we will cultivate together. One of our values is bringing joy, and few things bring us as much joy as getting to know new Brainers! As we look back at [...]
5 Years of Vicky, Reece, and Mason
In grand tradition, we love celebrating our colleagues’ milestones! Please take a moment to read about your favorite Brainers and their 5-year journey at CampBrain. Vicky Fenwick-Sehl If you have called into Support, went through our onboarding process, or had a report request over the last 5 years, chances are that you’ve spoken to Vicky! Over the last couple of years, Vicky identified that she had a passion for the technical and wanted to learn more about what it took to build software. She began taking courses and has also been formally mentored by folks on our Software Engineering team. [...]
We Celebrate 10 years of Rich & Mohit
2010 was a remarkable year! As we were listening to “Call Me, Maybe” and dancing “Gangham style”, we also welcomed Rich Stewart and Mohit Chaudhary to the CampBrain Team. CampBrain was lucky enough to make 10 trips around the sun with these rising stars. As with our 5-year anniversaries, over the last few months, we honored each in our company “huddles” with backstories, accomplishments, fun tidbits, and insights into what makes them tick. Here are some of the notes from those huddles on each of these valued Brainers and a few of their impactful contributions to CampBrain: Mohit "Mo" Chaudhary Mohit [...]
